Poem: Connection

Connection
By: Joi Maree Flowers

No one told her
She just knew
That something was wrong

Her mind sparked the worry
While her heart felt uneasy

Love linked her to him

She knew
Something wasn't right
When she called and there was no answer
5 times in a row

She knew when she heard the first knock on her door
That before it awaited no joy
Only sorrow

Her intuition was proven right
When she was told of her lover's demise
By the Officer who stood at her door

And then she loudly
Cried

Poem: Waiting

Waiting
By: Joi Maree Flowers

Up
All night waiting
Wondering
Where you are
Praying
You're ok
Hoping
There's an understanding explanation
As to why
I'm the only one still here

Waiting up
Pass the scheduled time
Of when you were to
Arrive

Still
Up all night
Waiting......

Wondering
Praying
Hoping

The worst aint the reason

Poem: Early Morning

Early Morning

By: Joi Maree Flowers

Early morning sun rise
The wake up call to a new day
Tomorrow's hope of continued life
Fulfilled
As asked through prayer yesterday

Unanswered to death's call
Not bond to sickness' bed
Stricken not by poverty's hand
Thank you Lord
Thank you Lord

Burdened not by yesterday's hardship
As eased by night's slumber
And silence's peace
Thank you Lord
Thank you Lord

Remembered in the present
Not reflected on in the past
Wrapped in the arms of Future's promised days
God is good
Ain't he good

Today
Unknown to be yesterday
But is now
As hoped to be

Rising with the sun's rise
Awakened to life's call
Another day given
To continue
The journey.....

Good morning

Poem: Opened Door

Opened Door

By: Joi Maree Flowers

The door opens always
When she knocks

No need for him to ask who it may be
For he knows
Every time

She is the love
She is the beauty
She is the peace

He calls only his

Never will he not answer
When she knocks on his door

For he knows before it she only stands

Poem: To Be Remembered

To Be Remembered
By: Joi Maree Flowers

No one hears
The voice that's silent

No one sees the body
That's not present

No one answers
If the questions aren't asked

No one sticks around
If the moment doesn't last

But

Those who
Speak loud
Stand proud
Challenges the mind
And extends the hours long after the sun sets

Are those who will be remembered
Long after their time

While those who didn't make the cut
Slip quickly
From the memory of minds

Poem: Against Me (Time)

Against Me (Time)
By: Joi Maree Flowers

I wish sometimes I could remain still
Just for a moment
To exhale
But it's hard
When you're being pulled
From both sides
Like you're the rope
In a tug-a-war match

I wish sometimes I can be alone
Just for a moment or so
To enjoy me
But that can't be
When you're being interrupted
By voices
Summoning your presence
To cater to their needs

I wish sometimes that time would fast forward
Just so the hours would pass by
So those needy eyes cannot find me
And those stretched hands cannot touch me
But that's impossible
Because only time chooses
When its hand moves
As it does the moments that are
Even if it means taking me away from me

I just wish that I had more time awake
Then I do when asleep
To enjoy those things important to me
Without the cares and worries
Of what others may need of me
But it seems that will never be

Because after all
Time has never
Been on my side

Poem: To Darkness

To Darkness
By: Joi Maree Flowers

Some time around midnight

The shouts became talks
And the talks turned to whispers
And in the end
All that was left was
Silence
Darkness
And separation

Coming from Apartment 9

All before the hour of sunrise
