Poem: Rain Showers

Rain Showers

By: Joi Maree Flowers

And if the rain should fall on me
I will not run away to avoid it's drench
But instead I will dance while it showers me until
The last raindrop touches my crown to kiss

Because I have done so before

As it is bliss
As it feels refreshing
Like my sins are being washed away
By forgiveness

As I believe it is Heaven's water
Baptizing me
Renewing me
Of the burdens that weighted down so heavily on my shoulders

And as the water falls

I will dance
Dance
And dance

To the drops of its beautiful melody

And I will sing
Sing
And sing

Caring not who hears my tones key

Because
I believe
This rain
Is God's shower
Washing me clean

Poem: Against The Mock

Against The Mock

By: Joi Maree Flowers

I can hear those haunted laughs in my ears faintly
But the faces that mock me
Have with mine eyes yet to be seen
As they are camouflaged
By the applauding crowd
Showing up to each show in hopes of only witnessing the final curtain drop of my act

But I continue to disappoint their wishes
By rising above their lowered expectations of my purpose
When the audience presents me each time
With a standing ovation

An invitation to me to return

And each time to their dismay

I do

And so do they

Poem: Lady Lust

Lady Lust

By: Joi Maree Flowers

The lady

Unknown to the world
As his lover
Was the perfection
His wife used to be
A reminder
That fresh was better
That beauty didn't fade quickly

The lady

Unseen by everyday faces
Who's name was spoken only in the company of silence
Was the pace of time in his eyes
Being slowed down enough to enjoy
The moment a little longer
Before home called his presence back to the four walls
He shared with she who held his last name

The lady

The company of his lustful nights
Who's shadow disappeared upon the sun's rise
Was in the beginning content with her role as "Other"
Until emotions escaped through the locked door of her heart
And found its way to her mind to play a game of chance with
Exposing her to the possibility
Of a maybe
If only she showed potential of wanting to become
The lady other than who she had been
The forever in his world
By expressing her feelings through love's voice

So of the challenged she accepted
As temptation showed her an ending that was happy and pleasant

And so she presented herself to him
As she wished to be received
Surprised by her words
He suggested time away for consideration to be taken
In place of the night's lustful groove

For a week he thought about it
And the week to follow
And the week to follow that

And the lady

Once known only in the darkness
Between the sheets of his cheat
On those days of his convenience

Came to the conclusion
That the answer she'd been waiting to hear
Had long ago been spoken

But she couldn't hear is initially
Because her hope spoke too loudly

Poem: Forward On

Forward On

By: Joi Maree Flowers

Slow were the steps taken out of the comforting realm of procrastination
As fear held its chain's grip on the ankles of hope
Until broken by determination's strengthening hand
Releasing the restraints of contentment
And breaking down the walls of settlement

To walk away from yesterday's regrets
Into today's dreams
That will lead into tomorrow's success

Poem: Formerly She

Formerly She

By: Joi Maree Flowers

He put a halt to his thoughts
And placed a lock on his heart
In hopes of forgetting her

But he found her name being spoken from his lips
And again he could not forget how he once loved her
How he spoiled her indulgences
How he praised her beauty
How he built their kingdom for her to reign by his side as his Queen

Until it tumbled to the ground as a result of war

The war which deceit began
Wounded by temptation's weapon
Slain by adultery's hand
Engulfed in flames by desire's fire
Until the smoke arose from the ashes of her betrayal

Leaving behind
He who loved her
With no answer
And no reason as to why
His love could not last her until forever

She whom he once loved

He who had after her departure vowed
To unlove her
To release her
To remember her no more

But he again found her name being spoken from his lips
And again he remembered how much he wanted to forget her
She who accepted his hand with no intent to hold on to it
She who entered into his heart temporarily
She who knew his want of forever was only for her
A moment

She's whose name was to be unspoken from his lips eternally

After today

Poem: Called

Called

By: Joi Maree Flowers

Just because my name is called
It does not require a response

I do not answer to every voice
And do not stand when called to attention by all authority's summons

As I am selective
To whom I acknowledge

And cautious
As to whom receives me

After all

All smiling faces aren't pleasant
And all welcomes aren't inviting

As the Devil is very convincing
When tempting

And cunning with his attempts
In pursuing my hand to take his

Though at times I have been close to answering him
And influenced to entertain his act

But I have heard the voice of God

And it is so beautiful
That it can not be mimicked

Even by evil

So when my name is called
I will know if an answer should be returned

As I do not answer to every voice
And do not stand when called to attention by all authority's summons

Unless it is of God's will
And I will know

Because I have heard His voice

Poem: Magic (July 4, 2014)

Magic (July 4, 2014)

By: Joi Maree Flowers

And just like that it happened
Magic

And just like that
We became one

It was known that one day it would happen
But the day of when was unknown

And on this day

As night awoke from its sleep
Once the sun laid down to rest

The stars shine were brightened
By colorful explosions shot into the sky

Accompanied by admirations of
"Oohs" and "ahhs"

And by surprise

While surrounded by those
Whom we love

Love

Looked into my eyes
And proclaimed his love to me

And asked it I would become
His Queen

Yes
Is what I replied

And I felt it
Instantly

The magic

Of love
Of what forever felt like

And it felt beautiful

Simply beautiful

Poem: I'll Go Too

I'll Go Too

By: Joi Maree Flowers

My eyes look to the left of me to see him
But disappointingly he's not there

(Hasn't been there in 14 days)

His side of the bed is as he left it
Made up and cold

(I thought that maybe he would return)

My hopes have given up on what
My wants wished to have

(So what do I do now)

My heart says call him to make it right
But my pride won't allow me to

(It's too late)

Better make up my side of the bed
And leave this place

(No sense in me staying either)

Because of him I'll never be able to let go if I don't go too

Away
