Poem: Penny Wrapper

Penny Wrapper

By: Joi Maree Flowers

Mama always knew how to make a way
Even when a way couldn't be seen to make
Wrapped them pennies up she did
In those little brown penny wrappers

Paid that light bill she did
Paid for them groceries she did
Sometimes paid for them clothes and shoes
You think she didn't
She sure did

Paid for what she had to
With those beautifully wrapped brown coins
Aint nothing shame about that
After all it is money

Money that some folk put to the side to forget
Because it didn't have that silver shine or fold
Money to them that didn't seem to be of good value
But with a hundred of 'em you'd get a dolla'

Wrapped up them brownies
Mama sure did
And made a way
When a way couldn't be seen to make
